Product Information

Stones, branches, rocky edges, off-road drops, or—worse—a fall can quickly damage the thin-walled valve covers of the 1300 ShiftCam boxer, even when the original engine protection bars are fitted with the original filler plate. Even minor scratches can occur. It is important to bear in mind that the design of the ShiftCam valve mechanism in ShiftCam engines is extremely complex, and therefore protecting the cylinder head is a sensible precaution. As the exposed valve covers are fitted only by force, there is a risk of them shifting in the event of an impact, which could affect the complex valve mechanism. This makes additional protection for the cylinder head particularly important. Especially in demanding conditions, as ShiftCam cylinder heads are one of the most expensive components to replace on the GS. Our designers therefore stated that the Wunderlich cylinder head guard must be generously sized and particularly robust to reduce the risk of damage to the cylinder heads.
